The archaeological site at Palenque which flourished in the 7th century CE, was home to one of the great Maya kings, K'inich Janaab Pakal (Pakal I.) On the right is his Palace with its tower from where he ruled with his mother. And on the left, the 27m high Temple of Inscriptions which sits atop Pakal’s grave.

An important city from the classical Maya period, archaeologists believe only 5% of the site has been
uncovered from the forest.
